Benefits
A dishwasher is better for the health of you and your family when you consider these facts:
50% of Australians only change their kitchen sponge after it gets really smelly and dirty. A kitchen sponge can be highly contaminated with bacteria if not changed regularly.
Dishwashers operate at 68 degrees or above (for certain cycles) which is hot enough to kill 99.9% of bacteria.
25% of Australian households only clean their tea towel when it gets really dirty.
Over 80% of Australians use their dishcloth to quickly rinse a cup or eating utensils under running water without soap.
1 in 4 use their tea towel to dry hands and wipe down dirty bench tops
Operation
With your dishwasher you can use the half load function if you only have a small number of place settings
Avoid the corners for dirtiest dishes as the central area has the best water exposure
Don't overload or nest dishes too closely or the water spray won't reach everything
Clean your dishwasher regularly with a dishwasher cleaner and always use rinse aid to prevent streaking on glasses.
Don't put objects made at different metals next to each other as galvanic action may occur
Don't wash ash trays as ash won't dissolve and ends up on your dishes
Dishwashers actually use less water then if washing by hand.
You can scrape your dishes clean and place them in the dishwasher
Typically a dishwasher will have between 3 and 5 separate fills during a program and usually 2 or sometimes 3 of these are ’heated‘ (depending on the model and program). In this case the water is heated using electricity supplied through the electrical connection. In this case the energy shown on the energy rating label is only electricity
